The following list defines some musical terms that are used quite frequently. Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with all of these terms and feel free to reference this page if you encounter an unknown term as you proceed with your lessons.


A melody is a linear series of single notes


A chord is a group of notes sounded together. Some examples of chords are the major, minor, 7th, and 9th.


A scale is a series of related notes that revolves around a tonal center. Some popular scales include the major, minor, and pentatonic scales.

Chord Progression

A chord progression is a specific progression of chords in a key
